Housed in the former Châtellerault arms factory, founded in 1819, Le Grand Atelier invites you on a fascinating journey through time and technology.

Initially the birthplace of bladed weapons production, the site began specializing in firearms in 1830. After its closure in 1969, it was reborn under the impetus of Count Bernard de Lassée and his collection of vehicles, giving birth to the Musée de l'Automobile et de la Technique.

In 1991, the town of Châtellerault acquired part of the collections, offering temporary exhibitions until 1998, when the museum became public. Modernized and renamed the Musée Auto-Moto-Vélo, it was awarded the coveted status of Musée de France in 2002.

In November 2019, a new transformation takes place. Le Grand Atelier, musée d'art et d'industrie, opens its doors, unveiling two brand-new spaces dedicated to the Châtellerault arms factory and the famous Chat Noir cabaret.

More than a museum, Le Grand Atelier is a genuine invitation to discovery, a place where history and innovation meet to offer visitors a unique experience.

Come and explore the secrets of the industry, admire exceptional collections and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the cabaret. Le Grand Atelier awaits you for an unforgettable journey!
